River water slides past the towpath at Precy, painted by Gustave Loiseau in his restless Post-Impressionist hand. Small boats hold the middle distance, their hulls dark against the current. Loiseau builds the surface from short, enameled strokes of green, violet and grey, the kind of brushwork he learned along the Seine valley banks. Poplars lean at the far edge, their foliage broken into flickering dabs where the light catches the water. A low sky, worked in crosshatched creams and pearl, presses the whole scene into quiet. Hang it where mornings feel slow: a hallway, a study corner, or above a reading chair that faces the light.
