Willows lean over slow green water where the Eure bends past Pontoise, painted by Gustave Loiseau in his characteristic en-caustic, flecked brushwork. Summer sits heavy on the banks. Grass along the towpath burns yellow ochre against the cool river, and a row of pale tree trunks catches noon light above their tangled reflections. Loiseau builds the surface in short, crosshatched strokes of viridian, chrome yellow, and soft cobalt shadow, the kind of Post-Impressionist touch that lets heat shimmer inside the paint itself.
