Bushes

Dense bushes fill the view edge to edge, leafy domes stacked one behind another until verdure swallows everything else. Pyotr Konchalovsky named the picture Bushes and then painted it with zero restraint. Paint sits thick, each dome of foliage built from hog bristle drags of sap green over viridian, ochre warming the shadowed undersides. A narrow gap of sky cuts through at the top, cool against all that leaf. Nothing is smoothed; every stroke stays where it landed. Give it a shaded study or a hallway that runs dim by afternoon; the greens deepen rather than fade, and the foliage carries its own light.
