Brzeg morski

Waves break along a cold Baltic shore in Brzeg morski, a seascape by Ferdynand Ruszczyc. The horizon sits low and the sky presses close, heavy with wet air. Painted in broad, loaded strokes, the water carries slate grey and steel blue, broken by foam in bone white where surf drags across wet sand. Dunes rise dark on one side, their grasses bent by wind. Nothing on this coast is decorative; the brushwork is blunt, the palette narrow, the mood bracing. Hung in a stairwell or a north-facing study, it suits rooms that favor cold light over ornament.
