Bridge

A timber bridge spans the river on low trestles, its dark line doubled in the water below. Pyotr Konchalovsky kept the title to that single word, and the structure carries the whole composition. He builds the scene in thick oil paint, greens and umbers dragged across the surface so the brushwork itself reads like rough planking. Reeds crowd the near bank, the current parts around a piling, and a narrow strip of pale sky holds the treeline down. It belongs in a study or an entryway, where mirrored water and dense foliage bring a settled, riverside quiet.
