Break in the Storm

Clouds split open above a churning sea, cold light pouring through the tear. Break in the Storm by Algernon Talmage catches that precise moment when gale becomes afterlight. Slate grey and bruised violet dominate the sky, broken by a seam of pale gold along the horizon. Below, the water churns in short, loaded strokes of indigo and green, foam catching white where the swell crests. The brushwork is wet and directional, drag marks left visible where one wave meets the next. A study, a stairwell landing, or a coastal reading nook: anywhere a room wants weather in it.
