Bouquet for Ettie

A bouquet of impossible flowers climbs the sheet for Ettie, Stettheimer's sister and confidante. Stems bend where real stems never would, petals open in colors that exist only in paint. Pink and crimson blooms crowd the top of the composition, their outlines looping and curling with a hand-drawn confidence. Beneath them, greens run in ribbons, thin and fluid, some leaves tipped in blue. The floral arrangement reads less like botany and more like celebration, every blossom drawn a little larger than life. A reading nook or vanity corner suits its theatrical charm, where the flowers keep their bright, welcome disorder.
