Bouleternère

A hillside village gathers beneath a pale southern sky, rooftops stepping down the slope in ordered rows. This is Bouleternère, rendered by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in watercolor, the kind of exacting architectural study he made while traveling through the Roussillon. Warm ochre walls catch the sun where shadow cuts hard across the terraces. Bells of the church tower rise above the tightly packed houses, and the mountain behind sits quiet in muted rose and grey. Every edge is ruled, every wash deliberate, showing the discipline of an architect trained hand inside a landscape painter. It settles naturally into a hallway or stairwell, somewhere it can be read at a slow pace.
