Boats on the Shore

Narrow wooden hulls rest above the tide line in Boats on the Shore, Kimon Loghi. Oars lie across the thwarts, and low sun flattens the water to a sheet of pewter. Brushwork stays short and loaded, cobalt and slate dragged over wet sand while beached timbers hold a warm undernote of sienna. Rigging reduces to a few flicked lines. Two figures with crates and baskets give the beach its human scale, half swallowed by glare. Hang it where daylight already lives: a stair landing, a study with pale linen walls, or an entryway that wants the smell of tar and salt in it.
