Boathouse on Blenheim Lake

A timber boathouse crouches at the waterline, its pitched roof and dark opening doubled in the still surface of Blenheim Lake. Churchill painted that quiet corner of the parkland at his family seat. The brushwork moves fast and loaded, greens stacked over blues, a slab of pale sky cut between overhanging trees. Reeds tick the near bank. The doorway holds a rectangle of deeper shadow where the water slides in without a ripple. It belongs in a study or a library reading corner, somewhere with leather chairs and low lamplight, where an English country scene can anchor the whole room.
