Poppies and daisies jostle in a stoneware jug, petals rendered in thick, loaded strokes of vermilion and chrome yellow against a deep teal ground. Swiss painter Cuno Amiet built this flower still life in impasto so heavy the brushwork catches real light, each dab of pigment standing off the surface like tile. Cobalt shadows pool where stems cross the waterline. The composition stays loose and jubilant, color doing all the structural work. It belongs in a sunlit breakfast room or beside a kitchen window, anywhere morning color feels welcome.
