Blue Vase

A bulbous vessel in deep cobalt glaze anchors the composition, light skimming its curved flank. Pyotr Konchalovsky built Blue vase around this single object, a still life pared to its essentials. Impasto ridges, loaded and deliberate, model the glaze while a white highlight crests the shoulder and shadow pools at the foot. Garden blooms press at the narrow mouth, petals in rose and cream above folded linen and a dark tabletop. Sunlit kitchens and dining rooms suit its hearty presence, and the saturated pigment settles just as easily above a study shelf or hallway console.
