Blossoming Orchard

Apple trees in full flower fill the frame, white petals crowded against a sky that runs pale and cool. Blossoming Orchard by Wojciech Weiss turns a spring hillside into a study of light through branches. The blossom reads in thick, broken strokes of white and rose, and the grass below carries greens mixed with ochre where sunlight scatters between trunks. Young orchard trees lean and cross at odd angles, their dark limbs cutting through the softness of the flowers. Weiss was a painter of Young Poland, and the handling here shows that love of color pushed just past observation into feeling. It sits well in a sunroom, dining room, or bedroom where spring light and garden color can carry the wall.
