Blooming Meadow Study

Wildflowers crowd the picture from edge to edge. Arkady Rylov titled this study Blooming Meadow, and the name barely keeps pace with the color: violet bellflowers, white marguerites, and buttercup yellow packed into tall grass. Loose brushwork carries the field. Stems lean and cross in quick oil strokes, each petal laid on wet over wet, so blossoms blur at the tips the way real flowers do when wind moves through. Green runs from cool shadow at the base to warm sunlit yellow near the tops. Made as a working study, it keeps the freshness of a painter standing in the grass. It suits a sunroom, breakfast nook, or any corner that wants midsummer on the wall.
