Blooming Meadow

Wildflowers run the full height of the picture. Rylov built Blooming Meadow on that thrust, letting blossoms crowd upward until sky becomes a narrow ribbon at the top. The meadow itself takes over everything. Look at the brushwork: short, loaded strokes of violet, ochre and meadow green laid wet into wet, so each flower head keeps its own texture instead of melting into the field. Grasses lean in different directions, catching light at their edges while the shade beneath them stays cool and bluish. Somewhere in that dense growth a handful of white blooms flare brightest, pulling the eye into the middle distance. A sunlit corner of a study or a breakfast room would suit it, anywhere morning light can answer the one in the paint.
