Bird in Space

A slender blade of metal, swelling then tapering, lifts off its dark plinth: Bird in Space, the shape Constantin Brâncuși pared away until flight became one vertical line. Polished bronze carries the whole argument. Light pours down the rounded belly, skids along a waist no thicker than a reed, and gathers where the tip narrows to a point aimed at the ceiling. A rough block of pale stone steadies all that upward pull. An entryway with hard morning light, a stairwell lit from above, a study kept deliberately spare. The silhouette asks for empty air around it and rewards every inch given.
