Bird in Space

One slim bronze shape climbs from a narrow point, swelling through its middle before thinning toward the ceiling. Bird in Space by Constantin Brâncuși reduces flight itself to a single rising line. Polished bronze carries light like still water; reflections slide along the curve and soften into grey smears. Below, a stepped base of pale stone and dark wood grounds the ascent, its proportions measured to the millimeter. Nothing decorative survives. Speed, held motionless, is the whole subject. A minimalist entryway, a study with clean white surfaces, or a stairwell landing gains one clear vertical accent and asks for nothing else nearby.
