Biarritz Cliffs

Surf tears white against dark Basque headlands, spray lifting off wet rock. Biarritz Cliffs sets that collision at the center, painted by the Albanian master Kimon Loghi. Loghi builds the rock faces in ochre and raw umber, dragging lighter strokes across their sunlit edges. Foam piles up in thick cream impasto where water meets stone, while the sea behind runs a deep green-grey under a pale, wind-scoured sky. A room with hard light suits it best: a study with a north window, an entryway where visitors pause, or a stairwell that needs the pull of open water.
