Białe Peonie

Peonies in full white bloom fill the foreground, their layered petals built from cream and bone tones that carry faint shadows of green and grey. Józef Pankiewicz paints them close, almost pressing toward the viewer, so the flower heads read as sculptural masses rather than botanical studies. The brushwork shifts across the surface: short, loaded strokes where the petals curl, thinner washes where stems and leaves fall away. Cool greens anchor the lower half, letting the pale blossoms glow against the darker foliage behind them. A quiet study or a bedroom corner, somewhere the light stays soft, suits this floral still life well.
