Beginning of Autumn

Rust climbs the first branches. Beginning of Autumn by Stefan Popescu shows the exact week when green gives up, leaves going copper at the edges while the canopy still holds its summer weight. Look closely and the paint sits thick, ochre and burnt sienna dragged over olive undertones so the foliage reads almost scorched. Thin trunks lean into a sky left pale and chalky, its blue thinned to almost nothing. Shadows run cool violet along the ground, a hint of what comes next. It belongs in a reading nook or study, where the slow turn of the season can be watched from an armchair.
