Before Sunset

Low sun gilds the edge of a garden sky in Before Sunset, a canvas by Konstantin Somov where evening arrives slowly and deliberately across a park landscape. Rose and amber washes pool near the horizon while tree canopies hold a deeper green, their leaves touched with copper. Figures stroll along a path, small against the wide sky, their silhouettes softened by the last light. Somov paints dusk as texture: layered glazes, hatched shadows, a thin gold line at the treetops.
