Bárhölgy

Flat-roofed houses climb a hillside under a huge whirling sky. Scheiber Hugó titled this scene Bárhölgy, and the name suits it: a town that could be anywhere, rendered in his unmistakable Hungarian modernist hand. Look closely and the detail rewards you. Contoured hills stack in bands of moss green and rust, paths stitch diagonally between dwellings, and the sky churns in concentric swirls of slate and cream. Every form is simplified to its boldest outline, yet nothing feels empty. A study, hallway, or sitting room with plain walls gives this landscape the quiet stage it deserves.
