Bald Trees with Houses

Bare branches stand over a cluster of rooftops, the trees stripped to their dark frames against a pale winter sky. Istvan Nagy drew this scene, Bald trees with houses, with an economy that lets the emptiness carry the weight. Look closely and the handling shows: hatched lines build the tree limbs, each stroke visible, while the houses sit low and solid in muted grey and brown. Chimneys, fences, a lane curving between gardens. The ink work has the dryness of a cold day, all texture and restraint. Suited to a study or a hallway where quiet, wintry landscapes feel at home.
