Balaton

The lake takes over the whole picture. Vaszary János painted Balaton as a broad plane of blue-green water, its surface broken into quick horizontal strokes that catch the light the way Hungarian summer afternoons do. Look closely and the brushwork tells the story: short dabs of olive and violet along the shoreline, sails reduced to small pale triangles, hills at the far edge dissolved into a haze of heat. The palette runs from deep teal to a bleached, sun-struck cream at the horizon. A lakeside mood for a living room or sunroom, anywhere that wants the open air of the Balaton shore close at hand.
