Balaklava. The balcony

Sunlight floods a whitewashed balcony above Balaklava, and Pyotr Konchalovsky meets it head on: cypress spires, terracotta roofs, and the Crimean bay flattened into planes of cobalt and slate. Paint sits thick on the surface, dragged in loaded strokes that build the balustrade from buttery ochres and the sea from slabbed ultramarine. Below, hulls bob at mooring; above, a rail throws a hard shadow across warm stone. The brushwork stays blunt, Cezanne-like, structural. Hang it where light shifts through the day: a sunroom with rattan seating, a stairwell in a coastal house, or a study that needs sea air.
