Bakhchisaray

Minarets rise over the tiled rooftops of Bakhchisaray in this Crimean view by Pyotr Konchalovsky, the old khan town folded into orchards and pale limestone hills. Ochre walls and terracotta roof tiles stack up the hillside, laid down in thick, loaded strokes. Poplars and cypresses break the roofline, their greens mixed wet against cobalt shadow, while whitewashed facades glow under a southern Crimean sun. A study or reading room with linen and dark wood suits it best; the warm ochre palette holds its own against shelves, brass, and afternoon light.
