Bakhchisarai. Common View

Rooftops spill down the valley at Bakhchisarai, and a slender minaret lifts above them against the Crimean hills. Pyotr Konchalovsky paints the town as one sunlit heap of stone and clay. Terracotta roofs sit edge to edge, patched with grey shadow. Whitewashed house walls warm to ochre where the light strikes. Dusty green orchards break the built mass, and the brushwork stays thick and quick, loaded pigment dragged in short decisive strokes across the sky. Hang it in a study or stairwell where afternoon light lands, and the dry heat of the hillside holds in the room.
