Backwoods

Deep forest fills the frame edge to edge. Backwoods is Arkady Rylov at his most untamed, a northern woodland rendered in heavy greens and shadow. Spruce and fir crowd together, their crowns layered in strokes of viridian, pine dark and olive. Light breaks only in slivers, thin shafts of pale gold dropping between trunks onto a floor of moss, root and needle. Undergrowth presses forward in wet, tactile dabs, the air itself seeming to carry damp and resin. A study, library or hallway with cool northern light suits this woodland atmosphere well, pulling the outdoors deep into the room.
