Autumn Landscape with Colored Leaves

Crimson maple leaves drift across a quiet slope in this autumn landscape by Hishida Shunso. The trees thin toward a pale distance where the mountain air dissolves into mist. Pigment sits soft and grainy on silk, the foliage built in layered washes of vermillion, russet and gold.
