Autumn at Thingvellir

Rust and russet spread across the rift valley floor in this autumn landscape by Icelandic painter Asgrimur Jonsson. The title names it plainly: Autumn at Thingvellir, the old assembly plain turned gold. Low hills hold the horizon while the painted ground breaks into patches of ochre, burnt sienna and moss green, the birch scrub gone copper before the first snow. Brushwork stays loose and airy, the sky washed in cool grey-blue against all that harvest color. Every passage of paint reads as weather and season, not as ornament.
