Atlantis

Twin suns of amber and rose hang above a drowned city, the subject Bogaevsky gives us in Atlantis. Marble colonnades still stand upright, frozen mid-collapse, their pale forms catching the last light before the sea takes everything. Look closer and the architecture turns stranger. Curved arches, stepped terraces, and slender towers in dusty violet and sea-green rise from water rendered in deep cobalt and slate. The sky does the heaviest work: molten gold at the horizon dissolving upward into cold, bruised plum, so the ruins read as silhouettes carved out of luminous air. Every edge glows. A study, a reading nook, or a hallway with low light gives this mysterious seascape the dark, contemplative room it asks for.
