A young woman leans toward the open casement, one hand resting on the sill, in At the Window by Pyotr Konchalovsky. Daylight falls across her shoulder and into the room. The paint sits thick and alive on the surface: cobalt in the folded dress, cream impasto along the curtain edge, ochre floorboards warming under the light.
