Walnut trees hold the upper edge of the scene, their canopies pressing shadow down onto the ground below. At the Shadow of Walnut Trees gathers that shade into a single composition. The trunks lean and cross, bark rendered in short, dark strokes. Beneath the branches, dappled light breaks across the grass in flecks of olive, sap green, and pale ochre. The shadowed zone sits cool and blue-gray where the foliage thickens. Farther out, sunlight warms the clearing, and the contrast between the two zones carries the whole picture. Stefan Popescu handles the transition in small, layered touches rather than broad washes. A quiet study or a reading nook with north light would suit this shaded grove well.
