A botanical specimen magnified far past ordinary sight fills the frame, its stem and seed vessels standing like carved columns. This is Art Forms in Nature 97, from the German photographer Karl Blossfeldt. Monochrome photography at extreme magnification turns plant matter into architecture. Charcoal shadow pools where the stem swings away from the light, while papery husks and fine bristles catch a pale rim against the bare, unbroken ground.
