A seed pod splits open against the paper, its bronze husk parting to reveal a chamber lined with dark, gloss-coated seeds. Karl Blossfeldt titled the plate Art Forms in Nature 82, one of the extreme close views from his Berlin studio camera. Every barb, rib and hair on the casing sits in razor focus, the kind of detail the naked eye slides over. Grey tonal washes fill the background, so the plant reads almost as architecture, columnar and buttressed.
