A horsetail stalk rises through the frame, each jointed node swollen and ringed, the stem tapering to a needle point at the top. Karl Blossfeldt photographed this Equisetum specimen against neutral ground, magnifying it until the plant reads as architecture rather than botany. The tonal range runs from deep charcoal at the stem base to pale silver along the ridged surface. Fine vertical striations catch the light between nodes, and the junctions show the slight bruising and texture of a real plant handled under studio conditions. Nothing is smoothed out. Suits a study, a hallway with hard daylight, or any room where graphic black and white botanical work holds its own.
