A dried umbel of some umbellifer, perhaps cow parsley or wild carrot, spreads its branching rays across the frame in a perfect radial geometry. Karl Blossfeldt photographed such ordinary field plants against plain backgrounds, magnifying them until seed heads became architectural drawings made by nature itself. Every fork and filament here reads with the clarity of a drafted diagram, the pale stems catching light against deep shadow. The tonal range runs from warm cream to near black, giving the image a quiet gravity suited to a study shelf, a hallway, or a reading corner where something orderly and organic can hold the eye.
