Whorls of needle branches ring every joint of a horsetail shoot, spaced with compass precision up the stem. Karl Blossfeldt recorded the plant for Art Forms in Nature, plate 3. Against a flat grey ground the stems carry near black weight, each node sheathed and tipped with a crown of fine bristles. The severity is pure New Objectivity, no ornament, no staging, and a soft graphite grain in the shadows gives the surface the feel of etched stone. Set above a study desk or in an entryway among field guides and botanical references, it holds a calm, measured presence that suits rooms built for looking closely.
