A cross-section of horsetail reveals its hollow chambered core, each joint swelling into a collar of fine teeth. Karl Blossfeldt photographed the plant against plain paper so every ridge and pore reads like carved stone. The stem rises through the frame at strict right angles, its silhouette darkened to near black while the surface keeps a silvery sheen. Silica ridges run in vertical bands, catching light along one edge and dropping the other into deep shadow. Geometry does the work here: circles, cylinders, a crown of pointed bracts. Suits a studio, hallway, or any room that favors clean lines over clutter.
