This plate from Art Forms in Nature captures a dried Equisetum stem, its jointed segments ringed and hollow, held upright against flat grey paper. Karl Blossfeldt photographed his plant specimens against seamless grounds so every ridge, node, and sheath of the horsetail registers with sculptural weight.
