Art Forms in Nature 14

Whorls of needle branches spring from every joint of the horsetail, arranged with the discipline of a fluted column. Karl Blossfeldt fixed this Equisetum portrait in Art Forms in Nature 14. Every node wears a dark sheath collar, its teeth tipped black against a stem ribbed like polished steel. The branches climb in even tiers, each whorl level as a scaffold. Enlarged far beyond life size, the greys run from pearly highlight to deep charcoal. Hang it where line matters: a study desk, a reading nook, a pale plaster hallway where its vertical rhythm can carry the whole room.
