A single horsetail stem rises in strict vertical rhythm, its whorled side branches stepping down the shaft like rungs on a ladder. Karl Blossfeldt photographed this living column against plain paper, letting the jointed geometry of Equisetum carry the entire composition. Every node reads as a collar, every branch as a calibrated arm. The tonality is cool grey with near-black accents at each joint, the stem edge sharpened to a fine line while the background dissolves into soft graphite haze. Blossfeldt worked at magnification, coaxing sculptural weight from a weed most gardeners pull without a glance. The symmetry is bilateral and exact, the kind of structure Bauhaus students pinned to studio walls.
