A thistle head fills the frame, every hook and bristle rendered in exacting detail. Karl Blossfeldt photographed this botanical subject for Art Forms in Nature, his album of plant studies treated as design rather than botany. Grey tonality carries the image. The seed head sits against a pale ground, its fine hairs catching light along one edge while the core falls into deep shadow. Curves repeat outward from a single axis, the geometry a compass rose might envy. Nothing is smoothed or arranged; the specimen keeps its crooked stem and uneven crown. Suited to a study, hallway, or reading nook where close looking rewards the eye.
