A dry flower head from a valerian plant fills the frame, its tiny pale capsules clustered along dark branching stems like a natural chandelier. Karl Blossfeldt photographed it against flat grey paper for his Art Forms in Nature series, enlarging the plant many times its true size. Every capsule catches the light differently, some smooth and pale, others ribbed and shadowed. The tonal range runs from soft silver to deep charcoal.
