Shadow swallows half the street. Árnyékos Utca, painted by Scheiber Hugó in 1921, turns a narrow sunless lane into a study of angle and obstruction, where buildings block the light and the light fights back. Facades press together in muted greys, olives and dusty rose, their windows set like dark pupils in stucco. Hard sunlight clips one wall edge while the rest falls into cool shadow, the geometry sharpened by clean structural lines and a slightly tilted perspective that marks Scheiber Hugó among the Hungarian avant-garde.
