Apricot Blossoms

Apricot blossoms crowd a dark, angular bough in this floral study by Fujishima Takeji, pale petals opening against a hushed ground, spring held at its brief and fragile peak. Thick oil strokes build each flower in shell white and blush, the pink deepening where light grazes the cluster.
