Apples

Apples sit in a heap on a plain tabletop, five or six of them tumbling against one another in a still life by Felix Vallotton. The fruit carries weight. Skin turns from bruised green to a deep flushed red, each apple modeled with a single confident highlight and a shadow that grounds it firmly to the surface.
