Apple Tree

A lone apple tree holds the foreground, its blossoms rendered in thick pale strokes against a hillside. This work from Nicholas Roerich belongs to his quieter nature studies, where a single tree carries the whole composition. Look closely and the brushwork tells the story: cool greens layered under a sky of soft violet-grey, blossom clusters dabbed in cream and blush, the trunk described with quick dark lines. Nothing is fussy. The tree stands solid and alive, planted firmly in grass that shifts from moss to ochre toward the horizon. It suits a sunlit breakfast room or a calm bedroom corner, anywhere a touch of orchard stillness belongs.
