Apple Tree in Blossom

Blossom buries the apple tree from crown to lowest bough, and Pyotr Konchalovsky paints it that way, stacking white petals in thick, unhurried strokes of Russian spring. The oil goes on heavy. Petals sit in cream and shell pink, ridged where the brush dragged, while grass below swings from sap green into violet shadow. A slab of sky blue presses flat behind the branches, and every dark trunk holds its ground like a Cezanne structure. It belongs in a kitchen or sunroom, wherever mornings arrive early, where cold green and heavy white read like an open window.
