Apple Tree by the Fence

Heavy boughs of an apple tree lean over a weathered rail fence. Pyotr Konchalovsky painted his orchards like portraits of old friends, and this garden scene keeps that affection. Thick impasto oil paint piles the foliage in slabs of emerald and sage; each round fruit carries a single loaded stroke of crimson and russet. Sun rakes the gray pickets, warming the wood to honey where the grain splits, while grass at the roots sinks into deep viridian. Set it in a farmhouse kitchen, a breakfast nook, or a dining room that wants the green shade and ripe smell of harvest in the air.
